Everything You Need by Jennifer Tiszai You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need, his generosity exceeding even yours in the glory that pours from Jesus. Philippians 4:19 (The Message) What does it really mean that God will supply all our needs? We throw this verse around a lot, but do we really believe it? How would our lives change if we lived as if this verse were true? Have you ever gone through a period of your life where you were completely dependent on God to supply everything for you? Perhaps you lost your job or had an extended illness. It can be humbling not to be able to provide for yourself and your family. The Israelites faced similar circumstances when God freed them from slavery in Egypt. As He led them through the desert towards the Promised Land. He provided water and food in the miraculous ways. Every morning, one day’s supply of manna would appear. Any attempt to save it until the next day would cause it to rot. God wanted them to rely on Him daily for their provision. Yet the Israelites response wasn’t to be grateful, but to complain they didn’t have enough variety! Our family has been literally living in the desert and relying on manna from God fort he past year. Following God’s leading to leave everything we knew behind and come to Arizona took faith. Dealing with my husband being out of work, with the exception of a few temporary jobs, for over a year has taken more faith than I ever imagined I possessed. Yet we’ve always had food on the table, clothes on our backs, and a roof over our heads. It hasn’t been easy. Often the money hasn’t come until it seems like it’s going to be too late. And yet, like the Israelites, the temptation is to complain, not to be grateful. I’ve learned a lot about God during this time. And myself. And the wonderful people He’s brought into our lives to care for us. God always takes us through the desert before we get to the Promised Land. It’s in the desert that we learn the lessons we will need to use in the promised Land, most of which involve trusting Him. It’s in the desert that we learn He is Who He says He is. It’s in the desert that we learn to obey Him, not because He says to, but because it’s what will ultimately give us the life we were designed to live. Are you living your life as if you know God will supply all your needs? Or is fear holding you back? Now is the perfect time to begin taking God at His Word and make that step of faith.
